Over the highway
and thru the months
To breakfast and rallies we went
We all thought we knew - the way to DQ
And at Culvers our money was spent
Over the river
and thru the wood
The trip would go better I’d wage
If out on a ride - to the east with the Hydes
Mike Looby would believe a tire gauge
Over the road and
off to the West
Our own Ian Gibbs to scoot
Todd and Deb found no room – a long night they did zoom
And Ian’s scooter broke down while on route
Over the rivers
and thru the far hills
Mark led a ride past the barley
Way out on his own, Ken Schmitz rode alone
And Lynn ended up on a Harley
Over the road and
on different Wings
Some folks tried something new
Connie and John have new bikes – Scott and Vicki a trike
And more changes may be in the brew
Down to the South
and off to Wing Ding
Many stories will come from this run
A flat tire Kevin beat – Lee was admiring meat
And Bob Frazee was told channel one
Over the river
and thru the overpass
Wing Ding riders felt glee
Holmes and Rohes did we meet – on their Wings oh so fleet
But Al turn on your CB
Over the river and thru the wood
Our State Rally was well in hand
When a foot did drift – to hit his shift
And Denny and bike fell off the standOver the river and thru the Black Hills
In Yellowstone we got a bit damp
3000 miles with tent – but no space did he rent
Gus never did set up his campOver the river and thru the wood
The Davis Rally was next
Over the River and over the river and over the river and over the river – opps, sorry
Brian’s GPS seemed to be vexxedOver the counter and thru the wallet
Chrome money seems to flow
Though Shed’s bumper was lost – but no matter the cost
Adding new lights the hours did goThen off to the north and looking for color
This part of the story is no bunk
Although it was dead – he moved over instead
And Don swerved right over the skunkOver the river and thru the wood
I hope to see you all next year
We’re more a family than friends – and our hope in the end
Your holidays filled with Christmas cheer!
A Special Chapter Q 2008 Christmas Poem
By Kevin Heap
Over the river and thru the woods
Our season now is thru
But winter soon will be past & we’ll be riding at last
From the road we’ll be enjoying the viewOver the highways and thru the towns
We rode far in the year of 08
Great fun we have had with company not bad
As we gather here to celebrateOver the saddles and into the hotels
Our group has spent time together
So here are a few, of the memories of you
And some too of the roads and the weatherWith sweethearts as flappers and gents in big hats
Some started early with Iowa E
We all looked so dapper & put Kevin in the slammer
The bus was the place to beThen came the big night at the Hinckley Casino
Of games with food and fun
We played at some cards and the dominos not hard
And later that night - who won?Over the roads and into the rallies
The season it came at last
From our Round Up in May with others to play
We Ride to eat as we have in the pastOver to Culver’s and on to DQ
Seems like food we’re always a huntin’
We talk on the go of Terry & Pam with no radio
But Dave got Elaine a buttonTraveling to Wing Ding way in the East
Some got there by bike some by plane
Many stories were hailed of Dragons and trails
And all had fun just the sameSome had misadventures, more than others it seems
The stories don’t sound much like luck
Bob Hyde it sounds like, perforated his bike
Draining oil, it rode on a truckThe roads we all say should stay nice and flat
Of that Todd & Deb would attest
Under their new steed, the highway exploded indeed
The result a new bike & that’s no jestThen over the pavement to Alex we went
With games, shows, prizes and such
A leak it was said was from new bike of Shed
Al & Na-dine kept texting in touchFrom Redlin to Sturgis and on then to Davis
The schedule it kept on a fillin’
Rallies like Region kept filling the season
With more chrome & all done but the billin’Riding in good weather and thru the bad
At times the wind really did blow
Connie rode to the end but the wind’s not her friend
Give credit; she’s still on the goOver the meetings and into the fun nights
It has been another good year
You’re not all mentioned by name; but still just the same
This Chapter we truly hold dearAll thru the socials and of the staff meetings
Our leaders haven’t led us astray
Thanks to Laurie and Greg; this is their tour’s last leg
Now Patty and Lee will show us the wayOver the spring and thru summer and fall
We’ve been busy and Heaven knows
Our Chapter it grew; with friends that are new
Merry Christmas! As this comes to a close.A Special Chapter Q 2007 Christmas Poem
By Kevin Heap
Tis the month of Christmas and here at our party
We all gather at Dehn’s for fun and food most hearty
We came in our cars, bikes tucked away-such a deal
To exchange holiday greetings or a white elephant to stealWe’ll start at the top, for our Directors we needn’t beg
One more year at the helm, we have Laurie & Greg
And then right behind, we look forward with glee
To take over on Trike, its Patty & LeeWith courses and classes, to take care of us
Lots of calendars & reports, thanks to Mike Looby & Gus
With checkbook in hand and cooking the books
Along come Ken & Bren, lets give them a lookThere’s more to the staff and to them we will say
Many thanks for your efforts that allow us to play
They plan the stops, they plan the routes
But no matter how well, we still do our come aboutsWe started with Round up way back in May
Everyone pitched in and Oh, what a day!
But even before that, a meltdown that went so well
A bunch of us played games at the Hinckley Grand HotelIn July its to Wing Ding, an adventure out west
11 bikes for 11 days starting out with such zest
We start for the Black Hills together we ride
With Kevin & Cindy to act as our guideWe didn’t get far before parts fall off a bike
Who do they belong to, why Connie & Mike
Before we’re to Rapid, bike steering with dread
They found that their tires were losing their treadAs we pulled into Keystone without even stoppin’
What’s that in the road, a turkey’s a floppin’
That night at the hotel, under his trike Al is thinkin’
About why hitting the switch gets all his lights a blinkin’When what to our wondering eyes should appear
Joe with his laptop and tools says No Fear
I posted a message to see what they say
Joe fixed the lights and was Al’s hero for the dayWe rode all the routes the bikes love in the hills
The Pigtails and Needles provided the thrills
In Custer Park, a buffalo photo for Mike L
But the buf wanted to play tag, so Mike ran like hellAcross the Bighorns and Bear Tooth in mountains so high
It was fun to ride where the eagle ride their wings in the sky
Wing Ding weather we saw a record set hot
And Al swam his trike across a rain swollen parking lotTime to ride home, cross the country to near from far
And see how many world’s largest critters there are
Big Holstein named Sue, crane and buffalo we view
Pictures with each and the big prairie chicken tooA stop for food and gas before the last stretch we face
But we come out to find Tammy’s key turned on and in place
We started her bike with Al filming the feat
Kevin did the pushing with Brian in the seatThe state rally held in Mankato was fun
The rides and the dinners we all did in the sun
The Couples on got on the stage with some fear
As Don & Rita win COY, we all stood and cheerLast of the rallies, in Okoboji was our Region E
ice cream ride and Pajama party was all it could be
and Q in our night shirts, well dressed it would seem
we won the first prize as the best dressed pajama teamSo here we are now, having met off and on
For dinner and breakfast, to keep touch with our throng
As this has gone on long enough for your pour ears
I wish you all Merry Christmas and the best for New YearsA Special Chapter Q 2006 Christmas Poem
By Kevin Heap
Tis the month of Christmas
And as we gather near
Let’s take a look back on
What became of our yearTwas 11 months before Christmas
It was class time fore sure
A bunch of us gather
To learn how to cure
CPR and First Aid class
And through all the jokin’
We learned how to mend
A few ills and folks chokingTwas 10 months before Christmas
And thanks to Lynn and Mark
a bunch head to Hinkley
for a Mid-Winter spark
And from the game room a bounding
Laughter and stories were sounding
good food and good cheer
we hope you can join us this yearNow 9 months before Christmas
Some met and course took
All looking for practice
This is not found in a book
By the end of this month
Our bikes we had run
And we start getting together
For this season’s fun8 months before Christmas
The Branson trip is a breeze
If we keep Brian’s CB working
And keep finding Tammy’s keys
We hope for a trip
Without too much stoppin’
We don’t get very far
Kevin’s trailer lid is a’floppin’Twas 7 months till Christmas
We follow routes and a plan
but once we got sidetracked
while we follow Nancy and Dan
Still good fun we a having
And upon further refection
One more time we were
just touring in another direction6 months until Christmas
this month a big thing
we take different routes
and meet at Wing Ding
many shortcuts we take to get home
many miles Ian and Mark a’braggin
some of us head further east
and try the Tail of the DragonTis now 5 months till Christmas
Holmes & Rohes go to Jasper & Banff
No flat tires or breakdowns
Nice hotels in which to camp
Back home we still meet
To go for our ride
This time to the south
What was that route from Bob Hyde4 months to go now
Riding season starts to slow
Less Rallies and events
For us all to go
Still breakfasts and dinners
With plenty to eat
Any excuse for some ice cream
Is an excuse for us to meet3 Months then 2 till Christmas
As the time really flies by
We put the bikes away finally
And cover them with a sigh
Next spring will come soon
And once more we will start
To hit the trail early
To show off our new partsNow 1 month till Christmas
It is the month of our party
We’re all here for fun
The good times are hearty
So here we are again
My holiday wish for you
Good Health and safe travels
Merry Christmas and a Good Year that’s newA Special Chapter Q 2005 Christmas Poem
By Kevin Heap
Over the river and through the woods
To DQ and Culver's we go
We drove our cars to this restaurant & bar
Cuz we don't want to ride in the snow
Over the river and through the woods?
Where did the pavement go?
To left or to right, Al led us astray
and only he does know
Over the river and through the woods
Chapter Q is on a ride
We see ponies in the pen and Dalmatians go moo
We must be listening to Bob Hyde
Over the river and through the woods
The map is what Bren reads
Opps, Group 2 has missed a turn
Yup - Ken is in the lead
Over the river and through the woods
At Eagle Beach Lodge we met
This year we said farewell
To a friend we'll never forget
Over the river and through the woods
Winter play with Mark and Lynn
To Hinckley we thru ice and snow
For food, friends and games to win
Over the river and through the woods
Don and Rita have directed us
And in a crunch, help from the officer bunch
Thanks Jim, Mike and Gus
A Special Chapter Q 2004 Christmas Poem
By Kevin Heap
T’was the night before Christmas
And all thru Chapter Q
Not a Rider was stirring
Nor Co-Rider tooThe wish lists were filled
And hung down to the ground
And carefully placed
Where they were sure to be foundThe goldwings were tucked away
Blue, black, silver and red
And even the beige Wing
That carries Pat and ShedRobin in her kerchief
Along with Bob Hyde
Had just settled their brains
After planning a rideWhen in the garage
There arose such a clatter
Jim sprang to the door
And asked, Judy, what’s the matterShe had looked under the sheet
After checking the bills
To see a new Wing
Her look gave Jim the chillsThe light of the moon
On the new chrome below
Gave the luster of showroom
To the Goldwings belowWhen what to my wandering dream should appear
But a Mudspringer storeroom
With Rassy and Dee thereNew Chrome all around, but then to my ear
The sound Mark’s truck horns did I hear
And what do they signal I supposes
It looks like a thorn between two rosesWith our Chapter Directors
So lively and loud
They’re needed to keep
Control of this crowdMore rapid than Harleys
These Wingers they flew
And said what’s up with 205
That speed is nothing newAs they began, not a word did they utter
But as they rode on, they began to mutter
The question,”Oh what do we do?”
The quandary, Culvers or D.Q.Now 11, now 12, now 15 and 18,
On scooter, on Interstate, on SE and Valk
To the top of the on ramp,
To the top of the hill
Now ride away, ride away, ride away allAs dry leaves that before the wild hurricane fly
The credit card bills mount to the sky
So off to the bank to arrange for a loan
The price of a new Wing makes anyone moanThe group was impatient and did not stay,
With Rudolph the Red nosed Ride Coordinator
Leading the away
I heard them exclaim as they rode out of site
Turn left here, no, turn left here
Not that way, that’s right.
